Learning Designs

There are many different aspects that influence Learning Designs, both for educators and the students they work with. The goals of learning, characteristics of the learners, their comfort with the learning process and their familiarity with the content, educators’ work environment and the resources that are available to support the learner. While there are many ways that learning can occur, most educators have professional learning in face to face, online, and hybrid settings. Alongside these they are designs for job-embedded learning which include knowing and analyzing student data, co-teaching with peers, study groups, student observation and many others.

There are multiple factors to include when selecting different learning designs as an educator. The first is the intended outcome, from the student and educator needs. Using effective designs can assist in moving from basic comprehension to develop a deeper understanding of its purpose. As well educators should provide many opportunities to practice new learning techniques, assessments, feedback, and coaching so the learner can become fully integrated into routine behaviors. Learning designers need to consider how to build the knowledge, skills, practice, how to challenge behaviors and inspire action. As educators of learning designs, we need to be involved in all areas of learning and teaching and growing as an educator and teacher.
